Inheriting the Buddhas’ Mission, Striving for a Lasting Legacy
Wesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha, reminding us to cherish and uphold the Dhamma so that it may continue to benefit future generations.
The Buddha taught in the Aṅguttara Nikāya (AN 4.180):
“Cattāro imā, bhikkhave, dhammapadā, idha tathāgato uppajjati arahaṃ sammāsambuddho, vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, no parihāni.”
“Bhikkhus, there are four factors that lead to the growth, and not decline, of the true Dhamma: diligence, upholding morality, extensive learning of the teachings, and wise contemplation.”
The continuation of the Buddha’s teachings does not rely on external forms but on the diligent practice of sīla (morality), samādhi (concentration), and paññā (wisdom). True inheritance lies in personal cultivation and the propagation of the Dhamma, ensuring its presence in daily life.
On this auspicious occasion, let us engage in Dhamma learning, meditation, moral discipline, and wholesome deeds, practicing the Buddha’s teachings so that the Dhamma may endure for the welfare of all beings.
— May all beings walk the path of the Dhamma and be free from suffering!
Sādhu! Sādhu! Sādhu!
